ABOUT US

This is what Gajahasta

stands for

The story of the people behind it.

THE NAME

What's in our name?

Gajahasta means the trunk of an elephant — a symbol of strength, culture, and grace. Gaja means elephant. Hasta means hand. And everything we do at Gajahasta is storytelling through hands.

The elephant has always been a symbol of wisdom, memory, and quiet power. It doesn't rush. It doesn't follow. It moves with intention and leaves an impression wherever it goes. That's exactly how we believe makeup should work — not loud for the sake of loud, not copied for the sake of fitting in, but intentional. Considered. Yours.

Because makeup isn't applied. It's created. And what you create tells the world something about who you are, what you value, and how you choose to show up. At Gajahasta, we believe that story is worth telling well.

Opening day — 15 March 2026.

WHY WE EXIST

We built what we wish existed.

Most people are taught to copy makeup — follow this tutorial, recreate this look, use this product. Nobody teaches you to understand it. Why concealer is applied differently depending on a person's face — to give a lifted feel or a softer one. Why a certain lipstick colour can represent power. Why the same technique looks completely different on two people with the same face shape. Makeup is a language. And like any language, once you understand it, you can finally say something that's yours. That's when it stops being about copying — and starts being about your story.

We started Gajahasta because makeup in India deserves more than that. It deserves structure, depth, and recognition as a real creative career — not just a bridal service, not just a side income. Editorial, commercial, high fashion, SFX — these are real disciplines, and India has the talent for all of it.

But real talent needs real infrastructure. Not a 3-month course that leaves you to figure out the rest on your own.

Our vision is to build India's first dedicated makeup college — with departments, specialisations, and degree programmes across every category of makeup. A place where choosing makeup as a career is as legitimate and structured as choosing medicine, design, or business.

We're not there yet. Right now, we start with self-grooming — teaching individuals to understand their own face, their own story, their own makeup. Then bridal. Then commercial. Then editorial. Step by step, building the foundation until Gajahasta becomes the institution Indian makeup has always deserved.

But it all starts with you. One person. One face. One story.

The Woman Behind the Teaching

When Gajahasta was taking shape, we knew one thing — the teaching had to be in the right hands. Not just someone skilled, but someone who understood makeup the way we do. Someone passionate about teaching, not just practising.

We found Rekha on Instagram. One call, one meeting, and it was clear she was the right person for the role.

Rekha brings 13 years of real bridal experience, London training, and a genuine love for passing on what she knows. She is humble, patient, and the kind of educator who makes complete beginners feel safe in the room. She was willing to walk into a business that hadn't even opened its doors yet — and that said everything about who she is.

She values connection over everything else. And that is exactly the energy we want every student to walk into.

LEAD EDUCATOR, GAJAHASTA

FOUNDER

"I started Gajahasta because I was lost after training. Turns out, so was everyone else."

THE BEGINNING

I was 18 when I finished my three months of makeup training.

We were handed a certificate and left to figure out the rest on our own. No roadmap. No clarity on where to go next. Just this overwhelming kind of realisation that the industry was bigger and harder than anyone had told us, or maybe they just didn't want to.

Bridal work was the obvious path. It always is, in India. But bridal was never really me.

I've always been this person with too much creative energy to sit still inside one box. I wanted something more, I just didn't know what yet.

I stumbled into commercial makeup. Fell in love with it right away. Applied everywhere. Got nowhere… and then somewhere in that frustration I discovered avant-garde makeup.

And that was it. That was the thing I hadn't known I was looking for. I became obsessed, like completely.

Artists abroad were building whole careers around this — editorial, SFX, high fashion, commercial. Living well, doing work that meant something. And they hazd real schools that taught all of it.

THE REALISATION

The information is there.

The industry is there.

The talent is there too.

But no one is making it accessible, not really, not in a straight line anyway. No clear path from beginner to commercial artist, from curious student to working professional in editorial, or film, or fashion.

THE GAP

I kept thinking about my own training. Three months of bridal-only curriculum, and complete silence around every other form of makeup that exists.

Indian courses don't talk about it — the editorial world, the commercial industry, SFX, high fashion — it's all just quietly left out, like it doesn't exist or isn't meant for us.

Three months of bridal-only curriculum. Complete silence around every other form of makeup that exists.

THE VISION

That is the gap

I want to close.

Not just workshops. An infrastructure. A space where makeup is taught in every way it exists — and where students can find their own path, learn from people already in the work, and build something steady.

Not side incomes. Real careers.

Gajahasta began with self-grooming, because every big thing starts somewhere small. But the vision was always bigger. It still is.

See what we've built for you.

Whether you're a complete beginner or just tired of guessing, we have something for you.
